Emma Beddow: Thoracic surgeon, London

Miss Emma Beddow, a Consultant Thoracic Surgeon with an NHS practice at Harefield Hospital, part of The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust, treats all thoracic surgical conditions and has a special interest in extended and bronchoplastic resections for lung cancer and thoracic surgical oncology.

She qualified from the London Hospital Medical College (Univ. of London) in 1994 and has been practising Thoracic Surgery since 1998; initially at Barts and The London NHS Trust and then on the North Thames Specialist Registrar rotation where she attained the intercollegiate specialist examination in cardiothoracic surgery. She was the first of just a handful of surgeons nationally to to be offered a specialist training programme specifically in thoracic surgery. She was trained by nationally and internationally renowned thoracic surgeons, spent three and a half years at The Royal Brompton Hospital and has been fully trained in all aspects of thoracic surgery.

She was appointed as a thoracic surgery consultant at The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust in December 2006 and took up the position in January 2007.

Miss Beddow has a keen interest in teaching and takes an active interest in training local Specialist Registrars. She is an invited speaker at numerous medical and surgical meetings and is the STC representative for Harefield Hospital. She has co-authored the Handbook of Cardiothoracic Surgery and has numerous publications in peer review journals.
