Products and services
The most commonly requested DNA test is the
paternity test. Like other relationship tests, this can determine whether an individual is or is not biologically related to another individual through examination of those individuals' DNA (DNA testing). Other relationship tests may be used to determine various other levels of relationship such as maternity or whether two individuals are siblings or first cousins.

Procedure
Crucial Genetics employs a simple
procedure for all its relationship tests including paternity testing. Firstly, the client orders a test from Crucial via email, fax or telephone. They then arrange a time to perform swabbing at sampling centre, local GP or at Crucial’s main sampling clinic at The Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. A painless and simple cheek swab sample is taken and dispatched back to the Crucial Genetics laboratory for DNA testing.
Upon receipt of samples at the laboratories, tests are performed in a controlled environment. Once tests are completed a report of the DNA test results will be mailed out to the client. For a standard service test this will be between 5-10 working days, express services between 24 hours and 48 hours.
Reliability and accreditation
Crucial Genetics have a reliability of 99.999% accuracy for paternity testing.
Crucial Genetics is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 for relationship testing, this ensures that all areas of our procedures are guided by the strictest quality assurance systems, we also adhere to the voluntary Code Of Practice for Genetic Paternity Testers in the UK.
